How to add project thresholds in Primavera P6?

Updated: Aug 2, 2020

Generate issues automatically by defining project thresholds. Project thresholds contain parameters to assign to WBS components. They’re used to monitor and generate issues. Threshold parameters are

  • Accounting Variance (AV) - An Accounting Variance (AV) threshold value is expressed as a monetary value. An issue is generated if the Accounting Variance falls beyond the threshold values.

  • Cost % of Budget ( or Planned) - Cost % of Budget or Planned threshold values are expressed as a percentage. An issue is generated if the ratio of the activity’s actual cost to its budgeted or planned falls beyond the threshold values.

  • CPI – Cost Performance Index - A Cost Performance Index (CPI) threshold value is expressed as a ratio. An issue is generated if the CPI falls beyond the threshold values. If the lower threshold value is one, an issue is generated whenever the actual costs exceed the value of the work performed.

  • CV – Cost Variance - A Cost Variance (CV) threshold value is expressed as a monetary value. An issue is generated if the CV falls beyond the threshold values.

  • CVI – Cost Variance Index - A Cost Variance Index (CVI) threshold value is expressed as a ratio. An issue is generated if the CVI falls beyond the threshold values.

  • Duration % of original (or Planned) - A Duration % of Original (or Planned) threshold value is expressed as a percentage. An issue is generated if the ratio of the activity’s actual duration to its original or planned duration falls beyond the threshold values.

  • Finish Date Variance - A Finish Date Variance threshold value is a specified number of days. An issue is generated if the difference between the activity’s planned and current finish date falls beyond the threshold values.

  • Free Float - A Free Float threshold value is a specified number of days. An issue is generated if an activity’s free float falls beyond the threshold values.

  • SPI – Schedule Performance Index - A Schedule Performance Index (SPI) threshold value is expressed as a ratio. An issue is generated if the Schedule Performance Index falls beyond the threshold values.

  • Start Date Variance - A Start Date Variance threshold value is a specified number of days. An issue is generated if the difference between the activity’s planned and current start dates falls beyond the threshold values.

  • Schedule Variance - A Schedule Variance (SV) threshold value is expressed as a monetary value. An issue is generated if the Schedule Variance falls beyond the threshold values.

  • Schedule Variance Index - A Schedule Variance Index (SVI) threshold value is expressed as a ratio. An issue is generated if the Schedule Variance Index falls beyond the threshold values.

  • Total Float - A Total Float threshold value is a specified number of days. An issue is generated if an activity’s total float falls beyond the threshold values.

ASSIGN TRACKING LAYOUTS TO THRESHOLDS

Assign a tracking layout to a threshold to graphically show the information surrounding the threshold and the issues it generates. Then, use the Issue Navigator to open this layout in the Tracking window.
